Cookin' It Old School

Cookin it

I collect treasures from the 1950s and 1960s.
I especially adore cookbooks and aprons from those decades.
Interestingly, I very rarely cook. But I'd like to change that. Would you like to join me? Each week I'll feature a vintage recipe from one of my old school cookbooks!

Today's recipe is: "Tomato Super Supper Dish" from the following surprisingly wonderful cookbook - Cooking with Condensed Soups - circa 1950s.

Recipe 1

Here is my cooking dish of choice and all the ingredients.

The recipe calls for bread, but I used leftover naan (an Indian bread) and various other breads from my freezer. They worked just fine!

And here's how it turned out!

Final Product

Since I'm cooking for one, I'll be eating the leftovers all week. It turned out alright! It tastes like eating a grilled cheese and a bowl of tomato soup at the same time. If that sounds good to you, go for it!

  4. Good point, Sarah! :) Vegetarian = nice bonus.

Becky - you should try. If I made it again, I'd add more salt! But I LOVE salt!

Kasey - Yes, we do! Do you have vintage cookbooks!
