Several times this week,
I've mentioned the gospel text I'll be preaching on at church tomorrow.
Specifically today, I'd like to focus on the part where Jesus says:
"Love your enemies" (Matthew 5:44).
It occurred to me yesterday while getting ready for bed that for some of us, our greatest enemy is our own reflection.
Some people don't have this struggle; they love and value themselves. And God bless 'em! Ya'll are farther along on this journey of self-acceptance than I am. I hope to get to that point someday. In the meantime, it's a struggle every day.
Many of us have this struggle. There are parts of ourselves that we just can't stand.
We are our own worst enemies. Whether it's our past or our physical appearance or our inability to be perfect - we struggle to say: "I love myself. And God loves me, too."
Let's work on that, huh?
Jesus said, "Love your enemies" - a good first step might be to love ourselves.
(I'm listening to a live version of "Crash Into Me" by Mr. Matthews as I type this. There is something so lovely and mesmerizing about that song. I think I will never get sick of it. *I'm the king of the castle, you're the dirty rascal, crash into me.*)
