Advent in Your Everyday: Day #14

Today's Photo: "A View from Here"

"Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body
you were called to peace. And be thankful." - Colossians 3:15

The word "peace" shows up twice in this verse from the Apostle Paul's letter to the church in Colosse. It's a word we hear a lot. I say it a lot. I sign emails with it. We hear about it on the news. But do we recognize it when we encounter it face-to-face? What is peace?

I think the world might be quite off-track when it comes to letting peace rule in our hearts.

It's interesting how the author of this letter follows up a call to peace with a reminder to be thankful. Thankful hearts and peaceful hearts seem to go hand-in-hand. That's definitely true in my life. When I'm focusing on being thankful, I'm a lot less likely to engage in ridiculous conflicts and arguments.

Where do you feel most at peace? Where do you feel most thankful? What gives your heart pure elation? Key Lime Yogurt? New recipes? Watching your child learn something new? Holding hands with your spouse? Walking through an art museum? Playing an instrument? Singing in the shower? Talking to your best gal pal? Hunting with a buddy?

Dwell in those places of thankfulness - and observe as a holy peace descends all around you.
