February 23, 2014: Last Sunday at Zion

Last Sunday was a very special day in my life! It was my last Sunday serving at Zion Lutheran Church in Stewartville. God is good and these years have been so sacred. Sunday was a magnificent day. I soaked in every second of it. So much love and celebration and gratitude.

I have also cried plenty of tears along the way - tears of gratitude, tears of uncertainty, tears of emotional exhaustion. As I write this post, I am filled with a heart full of utter thankfulness. An outstanding staff - a loving congregation - and so many opportunities to witness the power of the Holy Spirit at work in our everyday lives.

I wrapped up at Zion this evening, and I'll start the new gig as Communications Director at the Southeastern Minnesota Synod Office on Monday. I am excited - nervous - thrilled - eager - and thankful! It's going to be awesome.

I thought you might enjoy a glimpse into my last Sunday at Zion. A church member and outstanding photographer named Lucien took the majority of the photos below. What a gift to have these images! Thanks Lucien! I am so grateful.

Preaching
A prayer of blessing

The choirs sang and all the Sunday School kiddos, too! Outstanding!

My heart is forever warmed!
I wrote a song based on the words of my 4-year-old pal, Gracey, as well as all the 7th and 8th grade Confirmation students. It's called "Zion."

So thankful Alecia could play, too!

My colleague, Byron, is a marvelous human being! His family is so dear to me, and I am eternally thankful for each of them: Lois, Sarah, Alecia, Hannah, Laura, and Christina. The whole Zion staff have been extremely encouraging throughout this transitional time; I am deeply thankful.

The quilters made the most marvelous quilt!

This photo is from the Amazing Anna! We snapped this pic after the yummy potluck.

Thanks be to God for Zion Lutheran Church!
For the outstanding staff.
For every member of the congregation.
For the thoughtful gifts and cards and letters people have shared.

For the astounding way the Holy Spirit works through all of us to
bring light, grace, and love into the world.

Amen, amen, amen.
