Winter, I almost like you.

Berries in Winter

Let us love winter, for it is the spring of genius. ~Pietro Aretino

Winter is not my favorite.
But I'm trying.
Really, really trying.
I want to love winter like other people love winter. So I say to myself each time I step outside, "Wow, this cold blast of air is so refreshing."
And I annoy even myself with this ridiculously optimistic attitude. But I'm going to stick with it, because there are many cold months ahead. I invested in good winter boots in the hopes that wearing them would make me eager to hike and play outside. It worked! Today I took a 45 minute winter hike. And, it was ALMOST enjoyable! :)

Reverb 10 Prompt: December 10 – Wisdom Wisdom. What was the wisest decision you made this year, and how did it play out? (Author: Susannah Conway)

During the month of July I'd been noticing more and more bruises on my body. Over the course of three days, I'd gotten about 15 of them. I kept thinking, "This is odd; I'm clumsy, but not this clumsy." I was over at doctor friend's house having a glass of wine, and I finally got up the guts to ask her about it. She said, "You need to get that checked out as soon as possible." That night I prayed about it because I felt like a fool and really did NOT want to go to the doctor since it would cost money and I figured nothing was wrong. I prayed, "God, please MAKE ME CALL if there really is something wrong." I did call the local doctor right away the next morning and made an appointment. The rest is history. My platelet count had gotten dangerously low by that point, and I'm thankful for the "wisdom wisdom" voice inside that told me something was not right.

Of course, there are times I feel like calling the doctor was the most unwise decision I ever made because it would've been fun to keep living my old life. :) But I defnitely realize that if I had had any kind of accident it could have been a very terrible situation, so I'm certainly thankful for my life in a whole new way.

  1. Oh Emily, you make me laugh! "Wow, this cold blast of air is so refreshing." Haha! Somehow I don't think I will EVER like winter! BUT maybe winter helps me better appreciate INDOORS? Like reading and snuggles and warm beverages and the romance of fire places (not that we HAVE one), and cozy blankets and movie afternoons, etc Yes??

  2. :) I'm really TRYING, but I cannot say winter is my favorite! Like you said - it does help us appreciate the warm indoors!

    Love you, Sarah!
