Food of the Week: Nori, Nori, Yum, Yum

Good morning, sunshines.  Yesterday's weather was truly glorious here in the upper midwest.  I hope it was lovely in your neighborhood of the world as well.  I was able to take a photo adventure yesterday, and that felt oh-so-delightful.  I forgot how fun it is to look through that lens.  Above is a picture I took in the park yesterday.  Lots of people were out and about soaking up the springtime glory.

This week's food has become my newest obsession: nori wraps.  Nori wraps are pressed sheets of seaweed.  Sound weird?  It is.  But it's also so tasty!  You can stuff anything in a nori sheet.  And now you can find nori almost anywhere - especially if you happen to live near an asian grocery market.  But I also found some at a regular ol' grocery store in the 'Ethnic foods'
area.  The average price is about $2.50 for 20 sheets of nori.  You can also buy it in bulk on Amazon.

Nori is salty and delicious.  It's also filled with nutrients.  Anything you'd put in a regular tortilla-style wrap you can put in a nori wrap - only it will end up having fewer calories (something like 8 calories per nori wrap).  Here is my current favorite nori wrap recipe (I invented it a few days ago):
1)  Steam some carrots and parsnips (Where have you been all my life, parsnips?  You are so delicious and sweet and cute!)

2)  Gather random ingredients from your refrigerator and pantry (I gathered some hummus, sprouts, the steamed veggies, hemp seeds, and leftover coleslaw)

3)  Wrap up your ingredients in the nori.  I smear the hummus down first and then layer up the rest.  SO delicious!  Give it a whirl.
