I still get very, very excited about checking the mail each day. I love it. Usually, it's bills and junk mail. But, whenever an occasional letter or card makes its way into my box, I always rejoice! There's nothing quite like opening a letter from a friend. It's a magnificent experience.

I recently got a note from my southern Illinois neighbor, Sydney. She lived on the other half of the duplex I lived in while I was an intern there. Dear Syd must be in her early 90s. She's had more than 8 strokes. Yet still, she perseveres. Her note was brief as writing has become a big challenge. A brief note from Syd is like a novel by George Eliot: splendid, thought-provoking, and beautiful. It was a highlight of my week! After church today I received another note. It was given to me by a 6-year-old.

Also quite magnificent.

Notes are such a joy. Our "Healthy and Whole" assignment for this week is to set aside a little time and write someone a note. It doesn't need to be long. It just has to be in your own, one-of-a-kind handwriting! Give it to anyone you'd like. Write about any topic. Send a little joy through the postal service. Or write a note to someone in your own home. Experience the beauty of sending and receiving words!
