good morning, good morning, good morning

To share this morning:

"Why I Wake Early"
by Mary Oliver

Hello, sun in my face.
Hello, you who make the morning
and spread it over the fields
and into the faces of the tulips
and the nodding morning glories,
and into the windows of, even, the
miserable and the crotchety -

best preacher that ever was,
dear star, that just happens
to be where you are in the universe
to keep us from ever-darkness,
to ease us with warm touching,
to hold us in the great hands of light -
good morning, good morning, good morning.

And, from a meditation in the book "The Language of Letting Go":
"There are times in life when we can walk a gentle, loving path. There are times, however, when we need to stand up for ourselves - when the gentle, loving path puts us deeper into the hands of those who would mistreat us."

I think I would adjust it ever so slightly to: "we need to stand up for ourselves and affirm those around us as they stand up for themselves."

A day of great potential - begins. Time to get busy. Soak it in, friends.

  1. When we finished CPE, our supervisor gave us each a copy of another one of Mary Oliver's poems: "Song of the Builders"
    On a summer morning
    I sat down
    on a hillside
    to think about God -

    a worthy pastime.
    Near me, I saw
    a single cricket;
it was moving the grains of the hillside

    this way and that way.
    How great was its energy,
    how humble its effort.
    Let us hope

it will always be like this,
    each of us going on
    in our inexplicable ways
    building the universe.
