Life Updates

It has been awhile since I shared any personal updates, so here we go...
  • My platelets are relatively stable lately, and when they go down, I just get a unit of platelets and they seem to come back up. I still get a shot of Nplate at the Infusion Therapy Center every Monday morning, and I get one blood test per week. Platelet thoughts aren't taking up very much of my brain space or heart space lately. Alleluia. Seriously. ALLELUIA! May I never take this joy and peace for granted. "I've seen the world from both sides now" as Joni Mitchell so wisely sang.
  • I am enjoying my work with the Southeastern Minnesota Synod as Director of Communications. The first several months were really hard because I missed parish life and I had no idea what I was doing 94% of the time. But as the months have progressed, I've learned more and more, and I'm figuring it all out bit by bit. I love the people I work with. And I sincerely enjoy the position. Also, it's fun to learn new things. It's fun to connect with all 176 congregations of our synod - and to have opportunities to visit congregations at least 2 Sundays per month. I am very, very thankful for this job and the people I serve. I miss people time because I spend a lot more time at a computer than I used to - but I'm finding new ways to incorporate plenty of people time into my extracurriculars and weekends.
  • I drink coffee again. It brings me happiness. No diet soda - and I don't think I'll ever go back. It has been 6+ months without any diet soda or aspartame, and 6+ months without gluten. I am happier and healthier without both substances!
  • I have morning energy again! After the summer from hospital h$#!, I wondered if I'd ever feel like getting up before 7:30am again (I used to LOVE early mornings). Well guess what? After I recovered from all the medical drama of the summer and stopped taking Promacta, I would definitely say that my morning energy has returned! I usually get up between 5:15am-5:45am and go to bed by 11pm. It feels so, so, so, so good to be able to have time in the mornings. It feels like a life bonus. Again...God, may I never take it for granted. Amen.
  • I'm REALLY excited to hang out with my mom and brother for Christmas.
    Less than a week away!
  • I have been learning more about Buddhism lately. I think Buddhism and Christianity aren't exactly the same but do have some really similar concepts. I'm enjoying incorporating helpful Buddhist thought into my Christian life. It feels like a match made in heaven. ;) Especially interesting to me has been reading about the Buddhist perspective on suffering. Here's a brief and helpful post from Tiny Buddha.
  • The Loop in Rochester is my new favorite location to order a Tom and Jerry's! Michael's was my favorite and I thought they were the only place in town that made them. But guess what?!?! The Loop does, too, and they're excellent!
  • Anna introduced me to Serial. Are you listening to this awesome podcast yet? I am only on episode 2. It's fascinating!
