Newspaper-ed

Newspapered

Here's my fun announcement! Mike Dougherty featured "Life Breathing" in his weekly column for the Post-Bulletin, the Rochester newspaper. Wonderfully delightful!

Initially, I panicked when I realized that my worlds were going to collide as my local church friends read the newspaper article: my life as a pastor and my life as a blogger were going to become one. I thought, "Oh no! Now all the people at church will realize I'm a big nerdy-nerd who loves shoes too much" and "What if they hate reading about my weird blood disease?" and "What if my church friends think I have too many God questions to be a pastor?"

But then I thought, "Actually, this is awesome! Because I'm the same person whether I'm preaching or writing or taking ridiculous fashion photos!" Earlier this week when I was feeling a bit insecure and lacking in boldness, my friend said something like, "Emily, I just want to remind you of something. God calls you JUST how you are. Be your real self. All the time."

So let's ALL do that this week (and far into the future)! Let's all be our whole, unedited, real selves. Because God DID call us to be just who we are. All our "worlds" (vocational-life, personal-life, faith-life, hobby-life, etc.) can safely collide. And we can be comfortable in our own, lovely skin.

Thank you for reading, my beloved pals. I will do my best to keep this blog a place you enjoy clicking back to each day!

  1. Congratulations on your recognition in the paper! It is kind of scary when our "online self" and our "real life self" collide. I have been having this happen little by little lately. It's not so bad! =)

  2. So cool to have your blog recommended in the local paper. I try to tell all my friends about it. I know your pastor self and your blogger self. They are the same. You are a beautiful, lovely, gifted person. You know we love you!
