Have you heard about the new dietary guidelines released this week? Here's a link to the NPR story. And here's a link to the official government guidelines website.
Differences from previous guidelines:
- Decrease sugar to less than 12 teaspoons a day
- Make "small shifts"
- Water not soda
- Here's a summary of the guidelines...
Other parts I found interesting:
- That it highlights meeting people where they are
- Good food sources for Vitamin D (many of us are deficient)
- Good food sources for Calcium (especially love that MUSTARD GREENS made the list - one of the few non-dairy, non-fortified sources that did)
- A link to the physical activity guidelines
- The Q & A Page
- The recommendation to focus on "nutrient density"
- The Social-Ecological Model
I encourage you to take a few moments and check it out! A huge amount of work has obviously gone into the creation of these resources. Overall, they seem really solid!
