Music Monday

How was your weekend?

I savored some quality family time with my mom, bro, niece dog, and nephew dog.

I was bit by a random dog during my internship year of seminary, and after that scary experience, I didn't think I would ever be much of a dog person. I would be able to tolerate them - and occasionally admire their cuteness. But I doubted I'd ever be a true "fan."

But now, after becoming an aunt, it turns out I really love dogs! Especially my niece and nephew! They are so sweet and smart. And I want to take photos of every adorable thing they do.

Just look at this! We held hands!

So. The moral of that story: I love dogs.

I don't know that I'll ever own a dog. But I'll sure admire yours! And I'll sure be more understanding about why you love him/her so much!

Inspired my new-found pet admiration, here are 5 songs for your week inspired by animals!

Blackbird by The Beatles (epically covered my childhood friend, Trent, in 10th grade during the High School Talent Show...I think Trent's is my all-time favorite version of this song).

Barracuda by Heart

The Dog Days are Over by Florence + the Machine

Eye of the Tiger by Survivor

Butterfly by Mariah Carey (I'll just go ahead and hook you up with a link to that whole album. "Butterfly" starts at 5:01. "Spread your wings and fly, butterfly." 1997. 9th grade for me. And that album was my soundtrack. I definitely brought my personal CD along to more than one of our high school dances to share the delight. You're welcome, classmates. You're welcome. What? You'd like links to more amazing albums from the late 1990s? Here you go: Brandy, Destiny's Child, Blackstreet, Boyz II Men, and Brian McKnight).
