Matthew 5:13-16

Jesus said, "“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

-Matthew 5:13-16

What a great morning we had today at Stewartville United Methodist Church! We celebrated what it means to shine - Jesus said, "YOU are the light of the world!"

This morning we celebrated that lights do not shine for their own sake - but instead, we celebrate all sources of light for the way the help us to experience life and see the world around us.

Similarly, we do not shine for our own sake - but so that other people might recognize the love, grace, forgiveness, justice, and compassion of Jesus! Our lights are arrows that point to God.

So shine, shine, shine! In large ways and small. In your home and in your workplace.

A special thanks to all the people of SUMC. I felt such warmth and love, and I will share your greetings and kindness with Zion! Thank you for your hospitality and for your witness in our community.

And a special thanks to the members of Zion Lutheran Church - for your support of all ecumenical endeavors! It is a joy when families of faith can learn, grow, and serve together.

Special treasures from the Women of SUMC; so kind!
