Movie Review: Paper Hearts

Movie Review: "Paper Hearts"
Lead Actors: Charlyne Yi and Michael Cera
Director:Nicholas Jasenovec
Writers: Nicholas Jasenovec and Charlyne Yi

I added this movie to my Netflix "que" because it stars Michael Cera, and I adore Mr. Cera very much. He was brilliant on Arrested Development (which was basically the best show ever in the history of all television! And guess what? There's going to be a MOVIE version!).

Paper Hearts is one of those movies that tricks you into thinking it's a documentary. The weird thing is that even by the end of the film, you can't tell FOR SURE whether it's real or fake. Yi and Cera ARE an item in real life (*swoon* so cute!). Wait just a second, I did a little fact checking. It appears that they may not be together anymore. The Interweb, as you know, is not the best place to look for factual information. Well, I'm going to go about believing they are an item.

Anyway, the idea of the movie is that Charlyne Yi sets out to figure out what love is all about. So she travels all around the United States doing interviews with people of all ages.

It's really a very sweet movie; it's fun, too. I never knew quite what to expect. Yi and Cera are both awkward and adorable. The movie spends considerable time highlighting the developing relationship between it's two main characters; I liked that storyline a lot because "the beginning" is such a fantastic stage of a relationship: awkward, wonderful, exhilarating, and filled with butterflies.

I'd say this just might be the perfect Valentine's Day movie.

My rating: 8 stars (out of 10)
