Advent in Your Everyday: Day #5

Today's Photo: "What a Flake"

"Come now, O God of love, make us one body. Come, O Lord Jesus, reconcile your people.
Come, Hope of unity, make us one body. Come, O Lord Jesus, reconcile all nations."

-Verses 2 and 4 of the hymn "Come Now, Prince of Peace"

Yesterday we pondered the joys of interconnectedness. Today, I'm struck by all the things that keep us from feeling connected to one another: long-standing family divisions, stubbornness, intimidation, war. Brokenness comes into the world in so many disheartening ways.

The hymn Come Now, Prince of Peace is a beautiful prayer to our Creator. Each verse ends with the words "reconcile your people" or "reconcile all nations." What a wonderful Advent prayer, praying that the God of the universe would intervene and help us grow back together.

The word "reconcile" means: "to restore to friendship or harmony."

Are you longing for reconciliation in your life? Is there a broken relationship weighing down your heart this holiday season? Sometimes we can personally take steps to help heal a relationship. Oftentimes we have to just hand it over to our Maker. Sometimes the reconciliation we long for is to feel harmony with God once again. Advent is a brilliant time to set aside the past and reconnect with our Creator.

May your day today be one filled with love, hope, and reconciliation. Remember that you are never alone, we are all connected, and God is constantly in the process of bringing about unity among all people and all nations.
