Advent in Your Everyday: Day #22

Today's Photo: "Enter In"

I'm still thinking about Mary's song from the first chapter of the Gospel of Luke. In the past, I've always been pretty neutral about Mary - I thought she was a lovely lady, but never thought much beyond that. However, this year, I'm totally in awe of Mary. She dealt with some significant challenges during her life. And yet, she seems to have such a sincere, devoted faith. I love that we hear her song of praise. I wish that we got to hear her other songs and thoughts, too: about the highs and the lows of being the mother of Jesus.

Right before Mary's song, Elizabeth says: "Blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to hear by the Lord" (Luke 1:45).

Sometimes faith and belief come easily. Other times, faith and belief are much more difficult to muster. I am encouraged by Mary's example. I am encouraged by the Holy Spirit at work inside of her - empowering her to believe in God's promises. May that same Spirit move in us today!

  1. I spent the whole church service today thinking about Mary because of you! :) My perspective is a little different than yours, though. I couldn't help but relate to her pregnancy. But I was in awe of her faith and composure in knowing that she was carrying God's only son. What a responsibility! I read book after magazine after website regarding how best to raise my own child, but to think of him being the savior of the world...! I would be so stressed! I feel sure that she truly felt the presence and blessing of God throughout those 40 weeks and the next 30 years.
